A 34-YEAR CRITICALLY INJURED ROAD ACCIDENT VICTIM SUFFERING WITH LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES, SUCCESSFULLY TREATED AT FORTIS HOSPITAL NOIDA

A 34-year road accident victim was rushed to Fortis Hospital Noida, where he presented with life threatening injuries. Ashish was admitted after a road accident near his home at Bulandshahr. The team of doctors led by Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director, Dept of Neuro Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Noida took up the case. It was challenging as all injuries had to be attended to at the same time. The patient was unconscious and unresponsive, his situation was critical and he was close to death.

Patient Ashish was riding a motorbike wearing a helmet at around 9 in the night. Suddenly stray dogs stated barking and chasing him and he lost balance on a muddy road and fell down. Though the bike speed was not much but his helmet flew away from him when he hit the ground. Post this incident he took two hours to reach Fortis Hospital, Noida for the necessary medical treatment. When admitted, Ashish was unconscious and unresponsive. No stimulus was able to jolt him out of this and he was unable to open his eyes. His blood pressure kept falling as each second passed, his respiration became erratic. The doctors intubated him and put him onto ventilator support. There was bleeding from his head and needed immediate intubation and ventilatory support to keep him alive. Brain butter was mixed with blood was completely out from his head. A CT scan was done which highlighted that the left skull had been fractured and that the left hemisphere of the brain was bleeding severely. The bleeding was causing the compression of vital structures in the brain which was causing the unconsciousness and unresponsiveness. Further investigations revealed a fracture in the right collar bone, C7 vertebrae and the right first rib. He was stabilised in ICU for an hour and shifted to operation theatre for emergency brain surgery.
