Dentists at Fortis Gurgaon conduct successful complex dental surgeries in patients within record time
A middle-aged international patient reported to the Department of Dental Sciences mainly complaining about her crooked front teeth. Although she experienced no pain in her teeth; the agony of not being able to smile confidently in public ran deep.
She had teeth that had turned brown from the root areas because of the cavities over the years. Gums were marginally inflamed because the patient was unable to clean the ups and downs of her teeth properly with mere brushing twice. She was not in a habit of using floss or an interdental brush to clean the inaccessible areas of the mouth. She had type II diabetes, was hypertensive and had low Vitamin D and calcium levels. This patient needed 10 root canals, primarily to disinfect the teeth. Following which we planned to give her ceramic crowns that would strengthen her damaged front teeth as well as restore the smile back cosmetically. Totally she needed 23 crowns in upper and lower jaw.
The case was very interesting, but the main challenge was yet to come. The patient had her flight already scheduled and to our surprise –dentists at Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI) had barely three days before the patient returned to her country in the Middle East.
“These types of cases are increasingly becoming common in our OPDs and require a multidisciplinary approach to reestablish the harmony between teeth. To help us deliver a near natural smile, we referred to the patient’s old photograph,” explained Dr Yatharth Bhatia, consultant, department of Dental Sciences, FMRI who worked on this patient to correct her condition.
