Electrophysiology study is the test doctors use to understand why a patient’s heart is not beating or functioning in a regular way. Regular electrical signal patterns followed by the heart are hampered by conditions like heart attacks, high blood pressure or simply ageing. These conditions cause scarring of the heart and leads to irregular beating called arrhythmia. Arrhythmia refers to the change in the electrical impulses of the heart, be it slow or fast. This leads to ineffective pumping of blood and consequently, ineffective functioning of other organs as well.
