Bengaluru, June 27, 2021: Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road, Bengaluru conducted a “Freedom of Movement” session for patients who have successfully undergone and recovered from Total Knee Replacement Surgery recently. The session was conducted to celebrate International Yoga Day where Dr Raghu Nagraj, Senior Consultant - Orthopaedics& Joint Replacement Surgeon, hosted a yoga session which was followed by an educative session on living a quality life post successful Total Knee Replacement Surgery.

Around 30 patients who underwent successful TKR surgery at Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road, became part of the session to share their experiences about leading a pain free life post the surgery.

Dr Raghu Nagaraj, Senior Consultant- Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement Surgeon, Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road, Bangalore said, “The session signified the successful recovery of patients who were once suffering from knee pain and other knee problems. A person with joint/knee pain is unable to bend their knee properly or sit on the ground with their bent knees. Therefore, we wanted to host this yoga session for patients to show that they have the freedom of movement now and would be able to perform all kinds of physical activities without any pain.

He further added, “It was delightful to see our patients participating in the session and able to perform the yogasans effortlessly. We also wanted to convey the message that practicing yoga after joint replacement surgeries in a proper and supervised way can improve their overall wellbeing. The program emphasized on advantages of practising yoga for people recovering from knee replacement surgery. Yoga aids in the growth and improvement of physical stamina, flexibility, and mobility by enhancing joint flexibility, easing stiffness and pain, and promoting excellent posture. It also helps improve digestion, immunity, and sleep quality.”
