Fortis Hospital, Vashi Celebrates Inclusiveness and Neurodiversity on ‘World Autism Awareness Day’

Autism and other forms of disability are part of the human experience that contributes to human diversity. Celebrating this diversity, Fortis Hospitals Vashi hosted an event at its premises in association with La Casa School for Special Needs. The event celebrated the kids’ skills and talents with an exhibition of beautiful handmade crafts made by them. The craft items at the exhibition included paintings, paper bags, craft items, handmade jewelry etc.

The event was attended by enthusiastic crowd of 150 people from the community and clinicians from the hospital, who had come to cheer the students. The audience was also enlightened about Autism, its needs and care for people who are found with the condition by Dr. Leena Deshpande, Developmental Pediatrician. Other entertainment events included skit and traditional Bharatnatyam performances. 

Dr. Bipin Chevale, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Vashi, said, ‘We at Fortis Hospital, Vashi, share United Nations vision for ‘Autism of Inclusiveness’ and ‘Neurodiversity’ & want to be the proponents of change through this event. Jointly organized with La Casa School of Special Needs, this activity has been aptly titled ‘Be My Change’. We believe in special individual’s rights and support their participation as valued members of our diverse human family who can contribute to a future of dignity and opportunity for all’.
