Free Heart check- up Camp organised by Fortis Escorts Heart Institute to commemorate International Women’s Day
Fortis Escorts Heart Institute organised a free heart check-up camp for women of Janakpuri to commemorate the occasion of International Women’s Day on the 8th March, 2015 under the able guidance of Dr. Aparna Jaswal, Senior Consultant, Department of Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.
The camp was organised in collaboration with the RWAs of Janakpuri to reach out to a cross section of women who are busy pursuing their careers or women who are busy devoting themselves to their families but do not set aside a time to get themselves checked. The camp was also set up for women with Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) or having risk factors of CHD.
The camp offered free services of ECG, Blood Sugar and LIPID Profile to all. The camp witnessed a turnover of a total of 150 people out of which 55 were women who were examined at the check- up camp revealing that 35% women from the total number were more prone to acquiring CHD in the near future. The female section had high incidence of diabetes, hypertension and some of the visitors even came for a follow up consultation with Dr. Jaswal as they had already undergone heart related procedures.
The three-year long study, which is India's largest study on risk factors causing heart disease, revealed that three out of every five women out of the 51.7 thousand urban India female respondents are at cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. It is astonishing to note that this high risk of heart disease sets in as early as 35 years of age in women. Even women as young as 35-44 years have the high risk rate of CVD.
