Jaipur, February 28 2022: There has been a significant upsurge in cardiac related ailments in the post covid era. According to the experts, unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, increased consumption of  alcohol and smoking  have been the major contributory factors.

Healthy and well balanced diet plays an important role in helping one stay protected from Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). Additional Director of Interventional Cardiology at Fortis Escorts Hospital Jaipur, Dr Rahul Sharma, talks about healthy food choices and habits to avoid serious health issues.

A healthy diet consisting of fruits, whole grains, nuts, leafy green vegetables, seafood and fish, good oils, seeds, consumption of less sugar, good fats, etc., can reduce the risk of developing heart disease to a great extent. One must avoid the consumption of alcohol and tobacco. People should try and include some form of physical activities in their daily routine as such lifestyle habits help one in not just having a healthy heart but also overall wellbeing.

According to Dr Rahul Sharma, "An unhealthy diet may lead to obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other serious health issues, which as a result, may lead to CHD. There are certain foods that one should avoid or cut from their diet, consumption of saturated fats, excessive salt, sugar, etc., should also be avoided or taken in moderation.”

Dr Sharma further elaborates, "Some of the most important factors causing CHD, especially in the post-Covid era are sedentary lifestyle, increased stress, not having a proper routine and disturbed sleep cycle, and the increased consumption of tobacco in the young generation, leading to higher incidents of heart diseases. Therefore, if a person is experiencing chest pain, discomfort, tightness, shortness of breath, etc., he must immediately call for help and see a doctor, as it may be a sign of CHD.”
