Hiranandani Hospital Vashi - A Fortis Network Hospital in association with ‘Altruistic Foundation’ organizes 5km run for the cause of Or

Enthusiastic Navi Mumbaikars joined hands to participate in a marathon organized by Hiranandani Hospital Vashi - A Fortis Network Hospital in association with Altruistic Foundation. The 5km run which started and ended at Ramsheth Thakur High School, witnessed on a rainy Sunday morning over 1000 participants who came together for a common cause to spread the message of  “Give life live life”, along with the purpose of “More to give”. 

The mega event began with a flag hoisting ceremony at Ramsheth Thakur High School, Kamothe, where the participants were each given a t-shirt with a message on organ donation. Participants included staff from Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, members of Altruistic Foundation, school students and collegians along with their parents, from the peripheral educational set-ups. Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi‘s ambulances along with trained medical staff (specializing in Basic Life Support & First aid Care) were posted along the marathon route to tackle emergencies. Participants ran with much gusto and spirit for the noteworthy cause and reached the finish line which was back at the school. Upon reaching the finish line, participants were engaged by Dr Atul Ingale, Senior Nephrologist & Transplant Physician and Dr Manisha Bobade, Facility Director, Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, promoting the cause of Organ Donation, encouraging them to support the cause by filling in the pledge cards, pledging their organs.   

Speaking about the event, Dr. Atul Ingale, Senior Nephrologist & Transplant Physician, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi - A Fortis Network Hospital, said “It is heartwarming to see so many people come together to promote this cause, that can save and enrich thousands of precious lives. Organ Donation in our country needs to be addressed on a wider scale, and by the outcome of this event today, we are certainly inching closer to our goal. People must come forward and share their experiences which will help us reach out to the community at large”.

Leading the initiative Dr Manisha Bobade, Facility Director, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi - A Fortis Network Hospital, said, “It is indeed inspiring to see so many Navi Mumbaikar’s come forward to participate in the More to Give Walkathon. We are passionate about the cause of Organ Donation and we believe that building awareness about this cause will only be possible with help from the community. Several myths associated with organ donation can only be dispelled with more awareness about organ donation”. 

A participant who ran the 5km stretch said, “As responsible citizens we must always come together for causes that benefit the society. This marathon is an eye opener for many of us who are unaware of how organ donation can enrich the lives of many; we ran for a healthier future".
