Mumbai’s 11th Successful Heart Transplant Patient Discharged from Fortis Hospital, Mulund

Fortis Hospital, Mulund, announced the discharge of another heart transplant patient on Friday, marking the 11th successful heart surgery since the first heart transplant that took place at the same hospital in August last year. Operated on February 12th, the 36-year old male from Lonavala, suffering from Dilated Cardiomyopathy, received the donor heart from 38-year old brain dead patient from Panvel.

The donor heart was retrieved by Dr Sanjeev Jadhav, Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgeon at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, at MGM Hospital, Vashi, in the early morning on of 12th February and was transported to Fortis Hospital in Mulund for transplant. The transportation of the heart was completed in just 14 minutes through a 19-km Green Corridor from Vashi to Mulund created with the help of the traffic authorities. On arrival, the heart was moved straight to the Operation Theatre and was successfully implanted by Dr Anvay Mulay, Head of Cardiac Transplant Team, Fortis Hospital, Mulund.

On the occasion of the discharge of the patient, Dr Anvay Mulay said, “It is indeed a moment of triumph for us to see our 11th heart transplant patient go back home today. With infection control measures being taken even at home, the patient should be able to get back to his daily routine very soon. We are confident that these successful transplants will motivate people to donate organs of their brain dead kin”.
