PSYCH–ED II 2017: A Resounding Success!!

The semi-final round for the Second year of Psychology Quiz Psych-ED 2017 was successfully conducted on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017. 466 schools across 95 cities had registered for this contest, out of which 72 schools cleared the first round to qualify for the semi-finals scheduled to be held in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Jaipur and Mohali conducted at Fortis facilities in these respective cities. Each participating school nominated a team of three students from their senior secondary classes. The first round was an online test that was conducted within the premises of the school.

The North Zonal qualifier round was organized at Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur on 22nd August, witnessing participation from 12 schools including Jai Shree Periwal High School, Rukmini Birla Modern High School, Scindia Kanya Vidhyalaya, Gwalior, GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow, Neerja Modi School, Christ Church Girls School, Tagore Public School, Seedling Public School, Sant Edmund’s School, Scindia School Gwalior, Delhi Public School & NPS Singapore. Three members from each contesting school were pitched against each other through a holistic quiz format. The format consisted of different rounds such as rollover, buzzer, rapid fire, minus point round etc. The quiz tested their knowledge of Psychology and allied sciences. Students from the entire event were conceptualized & led by Dr Samir Parikh.

This is the second time Department of Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences, Fortis Healthcare organized a quiz competition on Psychology, titled, “PSYCH-ED 2017”. This is an exclusive quiz designed for students from Class XI & XII to test their knowledge of Psychology and allied sciences and challenge the participants. It enables them to analyses situations in an astute manner. The questions present several insights into changing psychological perceptions and how people in the field would react and relate to them. This unique initiative has been conceptualized & led by Dr Samir Parikh, Director, Department Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences, Fortis Healthcare Ltd.

Neerja Modi School, Jaipur qualified for the finals, which will be held on September 1st, 2017 at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon after the completion of other zonal qualifiers from Jaipur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Delhi. The winner of the final round will get a cash prize of INR 50,000/-, first runner up will get a cash prize of INR 30,000/- and second runner up will get cash prize of INR 20,000/-. The top three semi-finalists from each zone will receive prizes by Britannica and these students would also get internship opportunities with the department.

Ms Shristi Jain, Ms Chahat Bodhraj & Ms Mahima Singh Winners from Neerja Modi School, Jaipur shared their experience “Quiz was very challenging and it pushed the kids to explore different concepts beyond the course books. Overall it was a very good experience for us, it was a pleasure to participate in such an exciting quiz. This is very innovative and unorthodox way to provide students with a platform to learn more about psychology, and we will give our vest and will make Jaipur proud in final round at Delhi”.

Speaking on this distinct concept, Dr. Samir Parikh said, “The quiz couple’s immense enthusiasm with competitiveness which makes it come to life. I am looking forward to the final round and am very excited to see which school will emerge as the winner of the Fortis National Psychology Quiz Psych-ED 2017. Students, their parents and teacher encourages us to engage with more schools, more importantly it generates interest in psychology and we would hope a lot of these young bright minds would take psychology in the future considering the huge deficit of experts in our country”.
