Rotary International District 3230, honours Fortis Doctors K. R. Balakrishnan and Suresh Rao K. G. with the “Lifetime Achievement Award”
The Rotary International District 3230 in its National Conference has conferred the “Lifetime Achievement Award” on Dr. K R Balakrishnan, Director of Cardiac Sciences, Fortis Centre for Heart Failure & Transplant, Fortis Malar hospital and “Vocational Excellence Award” on Dr. Suresh Rao K G, HOD - Cardiac Critical Care and Cardiac Anesthesia, Fortis Malar Hospital. The award was given by the Rotary International President John F Germ in the presence of District Governor I S A K Nazar and District Governor Dr. Nandakumar. The program saw over 6000 participants. Previous recipients of this award are Director Bharathiraja, writer Lena Tamilvanan and many other stalwarts
The award was conferred upon Dr. K. R. Balakrishnan and Dr. Suresh Rao for their contribution in the field of Heart Care in India terms of carrying out over 10,000 adult cardiac surgeries, over 6000 paediatric heart surgeries, 37 heart transplants and 10 VAD’s. They have been instrumental in starting India’s First Comprehensive Centre for Heart Failure Management at Fortis Malar Hospital, Chennai. The team led by both doctors have many firsts to their credit – performed India’s first LVAD Heartmate II, first HVAD in 2013, first inter-state heart transplant and many more.
Fortis Malar was known for provide treatment of international level and innovative techniques for the treatment of end-stage heart failure and related problems. Fortis Malar Hospital adopted the Peadiatric Cardiac Department in Rajiv Gandhi Hospital Pondicherry and Govt. Children Hospital, Chennai and performed 700 plus pediatric cardiac surgeries for under-privileged children with the support of Aishwarya Trust.
