Surgeons at Fortis Hospital, Mulund conduct city's 23rd heart transplant on a 25yr old female from Mumbai

Resident of Thane, a 25yr old housewife received donor heart from a 10yr old boy who had suffered Intracranial Bleed. Declared brain dead at a city hospital, his family agreed to donate his - Heart, Liver, Kidneys and Corneas, to save six lives.

The donor heart was transported to Fortis Hospital, Mulund in 24mins covering a distance of 24kms - starting at 04.45am, reaching Fortis Hospital, Mulund at 05.09am. The waitlisted recipient was suffering from Postpartum Dilated Cardiomyopathy since the past year and was waitlisted for two months. Conducting surgeon Dr Anvay Mulay, Head of Cardiac Transplant Team, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, "Its heartening to see a young boy save so many patients with end-stage organ failure. I salute his family; their act of bravery has given new life to many and is nothing less than an historical moment". About the recipient, he said, "The surgery has been successfully concluded; the patient is now being monitored round the clock in the ICU".

Dr S Narayani, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, "Another example of clinical excellence has been set by our team of doctors, all because of the noble gesture of this young boy's family. Their act of courage has helped breathe life into many deserving patients, it's nothing short of a miracle - we salute such families".
