Take care of your skin in the changing season
Jaipur, 04 November 2022: The skin is affected by seasonal changes and different weather conditions, like heat and humidity, or lack of it. With the approach of winter, the humidity in the air starts decreasing. There tend to be more breakouts and acne on the skin during this time of the year as even our skin takes time to adjust with the changing weather conditions. Acne is a skin condition which happens when the oil glands/pores of our skin get blocked by hair, sebum (an oily substance), bacteria and dead skin cells. Those blockages produce blackheads, whiteheads, other types of pimples. Thus, it is important to follow some steps in your skincare regime to make your skin feel rejuvenated, fresh and glowing. Dr. Komal Gupta, Senior Consultant, Dermatology, Fortis Escorts Hospital Jaipur talks about the various factors that cause pimples and suggests ways to treat them.
Dr. Komal Gupta, Senior Consultant, Dermatology, Fortis Escorts Hospital Jaipur said, “Acne can take several forms, such as blackheads, whiteheads, papule (small red or pink bumps that become inflamed), pustules (pimples containing pus) and nodulocystic (solid pimples that are deep in your skin, you can feel them deep in the skin. They are large and painful and can cause scars). Acne generally appears on your face, forehead, chest, shoulders, and upper back, it is a largely hormonal condition that’s driven by androgen hormones and there are a variety of causes that increase the tendency of acne such as genetics, fluctuating hormone levels, stress, and more. Preventing acne is difficult, if not impossible, during normal hormonal changes. It is important to wash your face daily with water and a mild facial cleanser. You don’t have to stop using makeup but try to use non-comedogenic products and remove makeup at the end of each day. Also, keep your hands away from your face.”
“Acne can sometimes even cause scars, which happens when the acne penetrates the skin and damages the deeper layers. If acne is pricked deeply, it can cause pigmentation; the nodulocystic type of acne destroys deeper layers and leave marks on the skin. Therefore it is important for the person to see a dermatologist to keep the acne controlled in number and size, as well as to prevent scarring,” Dr Gupta added.
