Titli, the first Thyroid Cancer Support Group in India launched by Fortis Memorial Research Institute.

Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon today launched Titli, the first thyroid cancer support group in India. Titli is a patient-centric initiative, focusing on ongoing support and care for thyroid cancer patients. Cancer is a much-feared disease and patients newly diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families are often in shock, feel anxious, lonely and indecisive about finding the right guidance and treatment options. They may feel the need to talk to survivors and people in similar conditions.

FMRI’s objective of launching Titli is to register patients diagnosed with thyroid cancer as part of the group, enable them to connect with others, learn vital information about diagnosis, treatment and most importantly, find hope. By joining the support group, patients as well as their families can find it beneficial to discuss all aspects of the disease with a cancer counsellor and other concerns related to living with the disease.

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor or growth located within the thyroid gland (in the throat). Thyroid cancer is one of the few cancers that has increased in incidence rates over recent years. It occurs in all age groups from children through seniorsi. Thyroid diseases are, arguably, among the most common endocrine disorders worldwide. India has a significant burden of thyroid diseases. It is estimated from various studies on thyroid diseases that about 42 million people in India suffer from thyroid cancer. The nationwide relative frequency of thyroid cancer among all cancer cases is 0.1%-0.2% with age-adjusted incidence rates per 100,000, at about 1 for males and 1.8 for females.
